Commercial Enterprises Methodology English | Arabic

The Islamic International Rating Agency categorizes a wide range of non-financial companies as commercial enterprises. These companies share a number of characteristics that drive their business and are consequently of significance in the rating analysis. There is a very long list of companies in this category, including:

  • Manufacturers of such things as pharmaceuticals, steel, chemicals or cars;
  • Mining and mineral extraction companies;
  • Companies engaged in oil and gas production, refining or distribution;
  • Transportation companies like airlines, railroads or oil and gas pipelines;
  • Electric and gas utilities, mostly regulated to ensure proper service;
  • Wholesale distribution companies;
  • Retailers and retailing chains selling everything, or focused on products like female apparel or athletic shoes;
  • Service firms like engineering consultants, accounting firms, management consultants;
  • Real estate developers, construction companies and building trades contractors.
